I ♥ Faces "A Touch of Whimsy"

I ♥ Faces is hosting a "A Touch of Whimsy" theme this week. We’ve even been encouraged to think “pretty”, “whimsical”, “playful”, "quaint”, “fanciful” and “oh-so-lovely” when picking our entry this week’s photo challenge.

I so enjoy the whimsical part of having a 3 year old little girl ... and the fact that she has a sweet little friend who lives just across the street makes it twice as nice! My mom blessed my daughter with the perfect gift for her birthday in May ... A Castle! Yes, her very own castle ... I wrote more about that day here. The girls have loved putting on their princess dresses and playing in the royal castle. Their dresses and hair and smiles make me think "a touch of whimsy" ... but i guess when they have 5 older brothers between them they are not likely to ever be ALL whimsy. Take note, that though they are beautiful giggling princesses they have been confiscating their brothers weaponry and stock piling it in their castle. Modern day, independent princess who protect their own castle maybe? Or just cute three year olds who love to play with their brothers' stuff. Either way I love their giggling faces!

I ♥ Faces "Let's Hear It For The Boys"

In honor of Father's Day, I ♥ Faces is hosting a "Let's Hear it for the Boys" theme this week. Photos must include at least one male face in them. I have 3 fantastic sons I love to photograph, a very handsome husband, a wonderful father and father-in-law I love to spend time with and both my grandpa's are still very active and fun to hang out with. So, "Let's Hear it for the Boys" could be the theme song to my life most days.

After looking at dozens of photos I could post I finally decided to use one that honors my dad ... Father's Day and all ... this is a photo I snapped real quick a few weekends ago. We were up at my dad's cabin (by we I mean: me, my 5 kids, my sister and her 3 kids and my other sister and her 3 kids, plus my mom, my dad, my aunt, my uncle and my grandma and grandpa ... it was a full house, I mean cabin).

Recently, for two of my son's birthdays my dad gifted them each GPS units and books on geocaching. So as my dad and his brother (the two 'grown-ups' in this photo) tried to wrangle 5 of my dad's grandsons and 4 of his granddaughters off on a geocaching adventure. This is so true of my dad ... he has always loved the outdoors and does everything he can to pass that love along to his 11 grandkids. I was glad they decided there were to many to try all ride in the gator. They posed for a quick photo and then they were off to try locate the 5 geocache boxes my dad had hid in the woods that morning. They had such a great day!

I Heart Faces - Week 25 "Celebrating Teens"

This week at I ♥ Faces their theme is "Celebrating Teens". Ten years ago I took a picture very similar to the one I'm posting today, two girls best of friends and their little brothers hanging out on a swing set in the back yard ... but there were no teenagers in that photo 10 years ago. But today ... well, today they look so grown up that this mama might have to cry

Why do they grow up so quickly?
Why does ten years from now seem so far away?
But ten years ago seems just like yesterday?

I Heart Faces - Week 23

This week should be full of really fun shots over at I ♥ Faces! Its all about PLAY this week:

This is the week to show off your little child, older children or oldest children (a.k.a. your spouse and friends) hard at play. This theme is very open - whatever you think fits the theme of "play"...just make sure that there is a human face showing in your photo entry as well.

Here is my entry, taken a couple months ago at our son's birthday party:

We took our middle child and nine of his friends to the LEGO store in the Mall of America for his 8th bday party. Lots of play time happening there! I will be the first to admit I still love to play with LEGOS, so glad my boys enjoy them, too.

I ♥ Faces - Week 17 - "Smiles"

This week should be happy and fun! Only requirements for photos are that they have to have a person in it and they have to be smiling. :)

Here is my entry:

We loved this sun-shiny spring day at the park! Mary just could not stop her smiling. So glad that winter is over!

I ♥ Faces - week 12

This week at I ♥ Faces their challenge theme is "Angles". I confess that on first glance at the line up of weekly challenge themes I thought it read "Angels" and said "guess I'll skip that week since I've never photographed an angel" ... then realized I read it wrong (phew...)

So off I went to find a photo with a creative or interesting angle ... ended up looking at pictures from 4 years ago! It was a really fun trip down memory lane. Man these kids grow really fast! So here is my entry of our 4th child, Z. He LOVED talking to himself in this mirror. I guess this day he was really cracking himself up and I remember my daughter saying "mom, I wonder what he is telling himself thats so funny"

I guess he could qualify for the challenge even if it was angels, since we think he is a gift straight from heaven itself (but then I'm a bit biased, I'm his mom). If you would like to see a much more recent shot of cute little guy click HERE

I ♥ Faces - Week 11

This week at I ♥ Faces their challenge theme is "Bundled Up". I must tell you that living in MN provides me with many pictures of people all bundled up. So it was a tough pick. Here is the one I finally chose of my hubby and our youngest daughter, taken while we were on our winter vacation in northern MN. They were standing in the middle of frozen lake and visiting the local musher who was giving dog sled rides. Behind them is the tee-pee we used as a warming house. We bundled up everyone on that trip so we could all be outside enjoying the snow together:

All our babies and toddlers have been "worn" in some way or fashion (slings, wraps, backpacks, ect). Here Allen was wearing Mary in her Ergo carrier, which works great in the cold and snow because it allows the little one being carried to be well bundled in a snow suit or coat. She loves to ride on her daddy's back.

We really do enjoy our annual family trip up to Bearskin Lodge. While there we enjoy cross country skiing, dog sledding, ice skating, snow showing, broom ball, lots of coffee and hot co-coa by warm fires, and the wonderful company of aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins.
