Joining this study of the book of James is really blessing my days! I so enjoy reading what other women are thinking and I'm so grateful for the daily discussions with facebook group of ladies. Please feel free to join Good Morning Girls as we continue to read James over the few months.
“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12
In James chapter 1 vs. 12 it was the word PERSEVERES that jumped out at me this week, so I've been looking at that word in different versions and different dictionaries.
The NIV and NAS use PERSEVERES but in
The CEV in says DON'T GIVE UP
The NCV it says CONTINUE STRONG
The KJ it says ENDURETH
The Amplified Bible says PATIENT UNDER TRIAL AND STANDS UP UNDER TEMPTATION
A while back I bought my big kids "the dictionary: finding meaning in God's words" by Thomas Nelson Publishers. I looked up PERSEVERES and it says:
The steadfast effort to follow God's commands and to do His work. The NT makes it clear that faith alone can save. But it makes it equally clear that perseverance in doing good works is the greatest indication that an individual's faith is genuine (James 2:14-26). Indeed, perseverance springs from a faithful trust that God has been steadfast toward His people. Through persevering in God's work, Christians prove their deep appreciation for God's saving grace (1Cor.15:57-58)
